Regional burn ban extended to King, Kitsap counties
By Seattle Times Staff

Air pollution triggered a Stage 1 burn ban in King and Kitsap counties on Saturday, while Pierce and Snohomish counties were upgraded to a tougher Stage 2 ban, until further notice.

The bans are meant to reduce hazards to children, people with asthma and those who suffer from lung and heart ailments, said the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

The Stage 1 ban means no outdoor fires, including campfires, and no burning in fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves unless that is someone's only adequate heat source. No smoke is allowed after a 20-minute startup period. In Stage 2, even certified stoves are banned from use unless they're the only heat source, and no visible smoke is allowed at any time.

A stagnant, high-pressure weather pattern with cold temperatures is expected to persist this week. For more information, see

  1. If Adage and Simpson have their way with us, we will see much greater levels of PM 2.5 which will result in burn bans more often.

As the burn bans don't apply to the incinerators, they will continue to operate.

This means that we will be forced to endure burn bans more and more often in order to allow the incinerators to to continue to operate.

When things really start getting bad, I can see a future where ORCAA would outlaw wood stoves and fire places so that the incinerators could continue to operate freely and make all that money for Adage.

This scenario is in keeping with my previous post:
