EVERY DAY OF DELAY IS A VICTORY!

Don't for a second think our presence is not felt!

Submitted to Shelton Blog by John Cox Mason County Progressive Shelton Blog

On the national level, we as individual citizens have little ability to counter the influence of corporate money. On the local level, however, our influence is greater. Better yet, when we band together to act in unison, our influence is much greater.

Here in Mason County, our band of brothers and sisters is up against most of the local politicians, the power elite, the timber mafia, the clam pirates, the local Chamber (Pot), and all of their sycophants of which there is no shortage.

So if you feel that we are having a hard time making progress here, we are. How could we not? But don't for a second feel that our presence is not felt.

The local good-ole-boys-club has had its way for quite a while, so there is a large amount of
good-ole-boy inertia to overcome, and it may be difficult to see our influence, but it is there.

Without the constant, low level pressure we have been applying, ADAGE and Simpson would have already started construction on their incinerators, and each and every day that we do not have to breathe their offal, is another victory. And if construction does start, every day that completion is delayed will be another victory.

Think globally and act locally... act locally...act locally...act locally...act locally...

  1. Your clear, unvarnished, understanding of the problem and our part in the solution is inspiring. Thanks, John.

  2. Yes! "Act locally" are the words that inspired me when I read another local blog in the early days of our battle. We CAN make a difference.

  3. Slowing down & delaying corporate political agendas on the local level is a TIME PROVEN way for communities to succeed in protecting themselves from such invasions.

  4. If we can delay, delay, delay for three years, they will be subject to the new EPA standards... a worthy goal!

  5. The delaying tactics and use of the system , while it may achieve short term goals have brought us no further to truly reforming the system. To vilify a company who is complying with the system is as wrong as a company using the system to its advantages. When will our movement learn to truly apply science and speak rationally about the science on equal footing.. that day will come when we change the system not subvert it to our needs much as the corporations due.

  6. So who's talking about reforming the system? Are the corporations going to go to AA meetings?
Duke/Areva/Adage does not care in the least about scientific, rational, logical arguments. They are like a child with its fingers in its ears singing , LA, LA, LA, LA. What they want is profit. They are driven by the craving for profit. It defines their existence. Do you really believe it is just a question of them not understanding our arguments? They are a cancer. When was the last time anybody convinced a tumor to be nice.

  7. I don't know what movement you are talking about because this movement has been sharing hard science and medicine with the "system" for the better part of nine months now. (See Reference Documents above for example.)

However, there is no equal footing when corporate bought the very system that is supposed to protect the citizens.

Why would this company not comply with the system; the system is a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate now.

There is BOMCC, POS, EPA, ORCAA, DOH.... it's a long list of alphabet soup, and we (taxpayers) pay for it to NOT work for us.

We have been incredibly rational, and we will continue to be rational.

However, I for one will continue to vilify the company Adage; the love child of a French nuclear company with a really bad environmental record, and Duke Energy, the dirtiest energy producer in America. They know what they are and they know what they are doing. Do not waste too much time, johnh93 feeling sorry for them.

These guys have the keys to the candy store, and their appetites cannot be satisfied.
