NEW ORCAA AIR MONITOR UP & RUNNING!

TIDE TURNING IN FAVOR OF MASON COUNTY CITIZENS
Submitted to Shelton Blog by Katherine Price Mason County Progressive

Robert Moody, ORCAA Compliance Supervisor, called me today to let me know the new air monitor on top of the Public Safety Building, 122 Franklin St., Shelton. is up and running as of yesterday afternoon.

Apparently Steve Goins, Community and Economic Director of the City of Shelton, decided it did not deserve a party, OR he plans to have the party later (he has not responded to my latest email).

Whether we get a party or not, we now have a tool to help us in determining what we are already receiving from Simpson, and to help the City make an informed decision about Solomon.
Let's keep our eyes on the prize and keep our eyes on the information we obtain from the new monitor.

The tide may finally be turning in favor of the citizens of Mason County.

Keeping it light with a big smile for the new monitor.

  2. AGAIN kudos to you dear KATHERINE!!!

HEARTfelt thanks to you from the entire community of air-breathers for your focused & tireless efforts to get Shelton its most NEEDED air monitoring system in the DOWNTOWN area, closer to the major pollution sources.

Without YOU, we would not have seen this air monitor being installed yesterday!!!

With this installation, a NEW era begins for the citizens of Shelton...a CHANCE for us all, & the generations to come, to have AIR that is HEALTHY to BREATHE.

YES!!! We hereby present you with the CAVE award of the year!!!

May your good works return to you a thousandfold!!!

  3. Thanks to YOU, Katherine, in spades!!!

It has been your persistence and tenacity that has achieved this new monitor -- and placed in the correct location, no less!

Right off the bat, oh my, what do we see? Air quality pollution levels HIGHER than the other 7 Western WA cities being monitored. And, this is a clear, spring day with gentle breezes and temperatures in the upper 50's.

We need a Moratorium on any permits for burning biomass and other pollutants until the City and County has enough data from this new monitor so that educated, informed decisions can be made.

  4. I think ORCAA moved the monitor so it no longer has to send the Nose Patrol down here to see what is stinking up downtown.

Or, the City wanted it downtown so they would be able to get some air-data before issuing building permits to Solomon...

Or, my favorite theory, Solomon wanted wanted some data to be sure placing a second biomass incinerator in the harbor would "do no harm."
