SHELTON BIDS ADAGE GOOD RIDDANCE!

The Fire-Breathing-Dragon Has been Slain!

Submitted to Shelton Blog by John Cox Mason County Progressive

YES! The fire-breathing-dragon has been slain! The ADAGE project is NO more! The Port of Shelton Director of Spin, John Dobson, has released the official announcement.

Kudos to everyone who has spent the last year or so in this battle to protect our community from those who would extract profit with no regard for us, the little people. We are not so little after all, actually.

Now we have to do something about Simpson's plan to ascend to "dragonhood". Simpson's old incinerator has proven itself to be a smelly, belching monster that is bad for our community's health. It must be admitted that trying to do something about it would be very difficult on the local level. Too many people consider its economic benefits (i.e. jobs) to be more important than a healthy environment. However, with a downtown air monitor being put in place, Simpson might be forced to clean up their current act.

But the proposed second incinerator is a different story. Simpson has stated publicly that a new incinerator would only provide 2-3 jobs. Its ORCAA application indicates that it would greatly increase the level of pollution in Shelton, including PM 2.5 which has been mentioned many times in this blog. When asked at a public meeting, Simpson confessed that the reason for the second incinerator was to be able to sell the power elsewhere in order to increase the corporation's profits. We get the PM 2.5. Simpson increases its profits. What a deal!

There are people who consider this a good thing. Groups like the EDC or the Chamber of Commerce (a.k.a. the Chamber Pot) are for anything that will increase profits for its members or those for whom they advocate. But, they do not advocate for we the people.
One of the things we have learned from this past year is that we must advocate for ourselves, as most of our local officials have other intere$ts.

In the Port's announcement, Dobson said that Adage "...provided a valuable opportunity to show that such a plant could be constructed in such a way as to protect the environment of Mason County." What BS! How did he come to that conclusion? Hey John, just because Tim Sheldon or Matt Matayoshi say that, it doesn't make it so. What this really seems to suggest is that the Port is already looking for an ADAGE replacement.

Farewell to ADAGE! Forward to Simpson!

Keep your swords sharp dragonslayers!

  1. OMG!!! I'm ecstatic but also afraid to let down my guard just yet. Our valiant fight against the "good 'ole boys" in this town has been so exhausting.

  4. Let Adage say what they will; we all know that without ALL our efforts, they would have had a shovel in the ground last December, and then there would have been no way to stop them. NOW LET'S TURN THIS TOWN AROUND!

  5. We cannot let down our guard for a moment. Let us be sure to have several of us at every Port, Mason County Commissioner, and City meeting, planning meetings, etc., to keep watch over our city and county. Better yet, as the new elections come along, let us get some new people (for the people) in office. This will take some years, but be so worth it.
