12/1/10 SWTF Open House Meeting Report

Submitted to Shelton Blog by Tom Davis

Storm Water Task Force Committee Members
Seemingly Unaware of Adage/Simpson Proposals

The meet & greet started promptly at 11:00AM and lasted till 2:00 PM. Cookies, pastry and coffee were available. Problem was, only about twenty-five people showed up, and that’s including six or so members of the twenty-eight member task force committee.

More importantly, it appeared none of the committee members were aware of either the Adage or Simpson proposals, much less had an opinion on how these two monolithic polluters would contribute to the decimation of our waterways.

I was stunned, especially since Matt Matayoshi, Executive of the Economic Development Council, and an outspoken supporter of Adage, was himself, a task force committee member. Could it be that Matt has an agenda that is at odds with the objective of the task force? Waasup wit dat, Matt?

I spent the next three hours talking with task force members, all of who seemed appalled- appalled I tell you- that such potential travesty of environmental justice could be taking place virtually right under their collective noses.

I suggested to the chair of the committee, Loretta Swanson, that she recommend to County Commissioners an emergency measure be initiated to halt the Adage and Simpson permit applications till such time as the Storm Water Task Force could study the potential impacts on our waterways. I also volunteered to serve on the committee. Wish me luck.

Call, or write an email to Loretta Swanson, Tel: 360/427-9670, Ext. 769; Email:
LorettaS@co.mason.wa.us. Tell her just how ludicrous it would be if her Mason County Storm Water Task Force, failed to object to business proposals that would add many hundreds of thousands of gallons of polluted storm water run off into our waterways every year.

Last Open House meeting of (SWTF) is Tuesday, December 7, 2010, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, at Little Skookum Community Hall, 3480 SE Lynch Rd., Shelton.

  1. Email to Loretta:

Thank you for serving on this important task force.

It is my understanding that the task force members were not aware of the
potential incinerators proposed by Adage Mason LLC and Simpson/Solomon,
which incinerators would greatly impact the work you are doing at this
time. If either one or both of these plants are permitted, and go online,
any data you have will become obsolete.

The task force should certainly be taking into consideration how these two
plants will affect the work you are doing, and whether or not they should
be permitted at all based on the already compromised water health we are
    experiencing in our county.

Thank you again for the important work you are doing on behalf of the
County. Please let me know if I can help in any way.
