Message from Jack Miles

The Good vs. the Bad and the Ugly

Submitted to Shelton Blog by Jack Miles

TO ALL THE RESIDENTS OF MASON COUNTY:

I may only represent the voters of the Port of Shelton, but I want you all to know, my heart goes out to each and everyone of you who live here in Mason County, and who fight to keep Adage from invading this community. I have studied thousands and thousands of documents and materials for and against Adage. I have viewed all the letters sent from concerned citizens, and have responded to each and every one personally. I am utterly disappointed Lt.Gov. Brad Owen has come out in support of Adage. I will bet he never once viewed the documents I viewed, or took the time to study the material.

In fact, I challenge the Lt. Gov. to explain in detail, how he came to the conclusion "this is good for our community". It's not about the JOBS STUPID! It’s about the "QUALITY OF LIFE" that this community so desperately wants to preserve. I have no problem taking on the Lt. Gov. regarding Adage. I know the facts, and he will lose. This community can rest assured, I will not stop fighting this issue until Adage packs its bags and leaves Mason County FOREVER! And do this before it starts operations!

We have a very critical election coming up in November. Just recently, Rahn Redman petitioned the community and got enough signatures to allow two items to go on the ballot:

1. Adding two additional commissioners to the Port of Shelton, for a total of five.

2. Reducing the Port Commissioners' six year terms of office to four year terms.

I encourage everyone to vote YES on these two items. (Port of Shelton Commissioners Jay Hupp and Tom Wallitner signed a resolution to oppose these two items.)

The third issue on the ballot was sponsored by Port of Shelton Commissioners, Jay Hupp and Tom Wallitner again:

3. Eliminating commissioner districts.

In this item, they are asking for the commissioner districts to be eliminated. This is a way of taking away representation from your area. Tom and Jay want to further their agenda and try to dictate the next election by eliminating commissioner districts, and thereby opening them up for their friends to run, or even worse. Have you noticed that Rick Byrd, Marv Faughender and even Marlene Taylor are coming around to the port meetings again? Two of the three were voted out of office. Rick Byrd was voted out; I beat Marv Faughender; and as for Marlene, she decided not to run and I'm quite sure I know why....she knew she would lose. So please vote NO on that one!

Anyway, after you read this, please tell everyone you know who lives in the Port of Shelton (Port District) to vote on these items on the ballot. Time is running out. Ballots go out in 45 days to Military personnel and in 21 days to you.

If the two items pass to add two additional commissioners and reduce our terms to four years, an election will be held this February. Jay Hupp and Tom Wallitner are opposed to this because they know their empire is about to come down if this goes through.

So keep up the fight! I hope we can find citizens who will run for Port Commissioner and join me in stopping Adage. If that happens, it would only take three out of five commissioners to help this happen, and I will tell you the first order of business will be to rescind the lease option and tell Adage to pack their bags. Just please help get the word out.

I want to hold a meeting soon and rally our forces. I know the fight has been long, and sometimes we feel it's not working. Just remember, the brave soldiers of WWII never gave up, nor did the people of Gretna, FL. We must keep up the fight and never let them prevail. Thank you all for your efforts, continue to join me in this fight, and never be afraid to stand up for what you believe.

All my best,
Jack Miles

  3. Jack,
It's very encouraging to read your letter and know that you are with us in this fight for clean air. At least we know we have one elected official willing to stand with the people and not against them. That's so important...so thank you for your willingness to give us a voice.
    I appreciate all you're doing.
    Thank you so much.
