OPEN LETTER TO JAY HUPP

TO: Port of Shelton Commissioner Jay Hupp
FROM: Two Port of Shelton Constituents
SUBJECT: Motives

Hello Jay,

We read your letter to the editor in the Journal. It's quite evident that you still have no idea why many of us who oppose the Adage incinerator seem to be picking on you, giving you a hard time...you know, the recall and all. We know this letter is an exercise in futility. You have made it clear that you don't want to listen to any of us. You have made it clear that you have an agenda and will do anything to carry it out. But we feel compelled to write this anyway.

We (and more than 3000 others who signed a petition calling for a vote) feel that you, personally, and most of the other politicians in town decided that we needed the ADAGE incinerator here in Shelton. You knew we, the people, would never agree to this, so you and your friends decided to make it happen anyway without citizen input. You slowly set things up...made little steps here and there so as to not alert us dozing citizens. Some of what you did to prepare might be legal. But is any of it ethical? We would say no, but then we don't agree on much do we?

Working with Tim Sheldon to change height restrictions for smokestacks (see video on post: The Smoking Stack?) is an example of your technique. We are constantly amazed at the long term planning that went into this project. It was outright evilness in action. You two make quite a team.

You talk about “progress” and never consider for a moment that your idea of progress might not be the same as the rest of us. We have yet to see the Port, City or County ask any of us what we really think about plans for the future of our home, Mason County. We think the citizens of Mason County would be very surprised at what you see as a better tomorrow. The Adage Incinerator is only the beginning.

Maybe someday soon you will have an epiphany and realize that as an elected official, you should be actively seeking out our opinions, and that we should have dialogues and discussions, and make use of tools like citizen advisory committees, town hall meetings, opinion polls.....maybe we could even vote on proposed projects once in a while. But we're not going to hold our breath waiting for this to happen. We would rather continue to breathe clean air. That, among other such concerns, Jay, is the motive for our actions. What are yours? Want to talk about it? How about a town hall meeting?

We know that you don't want to hear this Jay, but It really isn't about what you and your friends want, it's about what we, the people, want.

Oh...and thanks very much for plugging our blog in the Journal.

Sincerely,

John Cox and Christine Armond

  2. In reading Jay's letter to the editor one is reminded that dinosaurs and progressives think differently, and speak different languages.

A dinosaur sees a photo-shopped picture of death in his chair and thinks it is real. Not only that it is real, but he perceives the picture as a "threat." Having made that statement, he's going to back it up with crazy, perhaps dangerous behavior, because he feels "threatened."

Fellow air-breathers, Jay Hupp has gone round the bend. Let's work on the recall petition, but let's stop provoking Jay.

We cannot help him see the light, but we can get in his sights, and that's probably not a safe place to be.

  3. You know, if enough people look at these blogs, and especially the reference documents, it may not serve the Port and Tim ShelTon at all.

An informed public is the last thing these fellows want.

So short-sighted of Jay to direct everyone here.

    Happy reading, new visitors.

Please take a look at the documents from the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, the Mason County Physicians, etc. and make up your own mind about whether Adage is a good fit for our community.

  4. 3,200 Mason County Citizens (10% of the entire voting population) signed a petition requesting that our County Commissioners and/or our Port Commissioners give us a "Voice" (advisory vote) in the critical decisions they are currently making. Decisions which will significantly Impact All of Us for a very long time to come. Comm. Hupp sought ADAGE's input before making his "No you Cannot Vote" decision!! We think that was Most unethical on Comm. Hupp's part.

  5. Additional Notes -
Comm. Hupp in the Thursday publication of the Mason County Journal took credit for the County Fair. We were at those meetings. In fact, it was the work by Exec. Dir. Dobson in working the the Hansens who "saved our Fair"! Comm. Hupp at those meetings was Opposed to the Fair for various reasons!! Again, an honorable person does not take credit for someone else's work.
-- Water for Simpson on John's Prairie. Comm. Hupp again Took full Credit for This! In fact, the PUD3 was responsible for the water extension needed to that area in order to support their expansion. These PUD3 extensions and costs to rate payers were made without regard for whether or not Simpson might someday decide to locate some of their business on Johns Prairie Rd. at the Port owned site.
--- Comm. Hupp needs to keep things he says Honest and be Ethical in his dealings on the community's behalf.

  6. A bit of Humor --- well maybe for some and not for others.... Comm. Hupp has publicly written that he felt physically threatened by the "Dark Hooded person holding a Weed Whacker (sickle)" sitting in his chair (Photo-shopped in reality.)

I just don't understand the feeling of physical threat --- unless Comm. Hupp imagines himself as a "Weed Out of Control" which is thereby controlled by a "Weed Whacker!"

One further observation --- It appears that CREDIBILITY has become a Lost Virtue at the Port of Shelton.... HONESTY, by certain Commissioners, seems to be in question.

  7. Did he name the blogs by name? I don't read the journal. I certainly don't want to be in his or anyone's sights. I'm having enough issues with someone who is supposed to be on our side and yet keeps stealing my photos! Is there a copy of this journal article online somewhere? Am I going to need a lawyer? How worried should I be about this perceived threat thing? I thought Jay would be much more worried by the powerful folks who are behind the recall than by a silly photo shop parody. But maybe I'm an easier target??

  8. BTW love the metamorphosis piece. I think your art would translate well to mosaic. I like the contrast between the warm and cool colors that really catches my eye. I also like and all the pointy things that draw my eye up the piece from the bottom to the top. And then the contrast between the pointy shape and the smooth shapes. And the shades of blue on the top on the bottom that give the piece a sense of cohesion.

  9. The letter is titled "No merit in recall." He states:

"A better understanding of the motives behind the recall attempt can be gained by viewing several internet blogs:

    www.masoncountyprogressive.blogspot.com
    www.amicuscuria.com/wordpress
    "and especially"
www.sheltonprogressiveblogspot.com where Mossy Mom has posted a photo that I consider to be physically threatening."

The good news is that he has sent many folks to the blogs where they just might learn that this project is not an appropriate fit for our community.

The bad news is that Jay is completely fixated on what he perceives to be the threatening picture!

The man has come unhinged, as we have been noticing in the months gone past. I don't think he has ever had opposition before, and he does not take it well.

    How worried should you be?

When someone is unhinged like this... and, as you point out, the recall campaign should be what is most threatening to him; yet he chooses to be threatened by your photo...

Because Jay Hupp is really a frightened little girl, he has decided to react to a woman's blog, and to come after you because you are indeed an easier target than John Smith or Rahn Redman.

Jay's not the type to take on the men, but to come after the women.

I know I said we should not provoke him, but let's spread the threat around. Perhaps he will take offense at being called a frightened little girl and come after me?

Watch out who you attack, threaten, or harm, Jay, this community of air-breathers is pretty tight and it does not take well itself to being attacked or threatened.

Thanks again for the publicity and welcome to the new readers!

  10. From my point of view, I think Jay is a very clever man, & his going ON & ON about the "threat" the photo posed is a calculated effort on his part to COUNTERACT the ACTUAL threats made to Jack Miles (see 6 October 2010 Blog Post: "Jack Miles' Letter to the State Auditor").

Now, the EIS required of ADAGE and the RECALL, however, are an entirely different story! It seems to me that he might also be using the photo to distract the public's attention away from the REAL "threats" to his plans.

  11. In truth, the threats to Jack Miles were real.

The perceived threat to Jay Hupp, other than the very real recall threat and the EIS threat, is smoke and mirrors.

  12. RE: METAMORPHOSIS

Thank you Mossy Mom! That particular drawing is very special to my HEART, as it represents a MAJOR transformation in my life!

I put it on the blog at THIS time, to represent my HEARTfelt desire to see a major transformation in the way our local politicians think about the meaning of "progress" for our community.

May the the corporate definition of progress, both locally & nationally, evolve into a definition of progress that preserves our beautiful community & our beautiful planet!!!

  13. Right you are,Christine. Anyone who has taken business management courses in college has been taught to ignore, mislead, distract, or change the subject entirely when your objective is threatened. Jay is not "threatened" by Mossy's photo' he's just using it to distract from his own nefarious tactics, and to justify spending a lot of money on port security.

    SMOKE AND MIRRORS...
I just love that term "Smoke and Mirrors" ... Smoke to Hide the Truth from the viewer (public) .... Mirrors to Distort the Real image or even to Misdirect.

The Mason County Journal quotes Jay Hupp as saying that he has been threatened by seemingly innocuous artistically-manipulated photos. While others see Jay Hupp's "threatened response" as a carefully planned "Smoke and Mirrors"!!!

At the Port meeting on 11_2_10, at the very end of the meeting, Comm. Jay Hupp VIOLENTLY Attacked Jack Miles as being responsible for the 'Dastardly' picture. How untrue this actually was. This was Hupp's use of the "Smoke and Mirrors" Tool!

We need to remain rallied around Jack Miles, especially in light of the vicious attacks by Jay Hupp or the 'sweetly-respectful' attacks on Jack by Steve Bloomfield. Remember, Jack's ever present support of us the Citizens of Mason County!!

Finally, I feel that Jay Hupp should be very aware that, we the Citizens living in the Port of Shelton Districts, feel very 'Physically Threatened' by Comm. Jay Hupp and his dedicated supporters!!!
...A "Threat Towards the Citizens, Mr. Jay Hupp"? Yes, Indeed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, we need to rally around Jack.

I hope that everyone who is able to attends the superior court hearing tomorrow shows up (wearing "We Back Jack" buttons, where available). I further hope that everyone makes an extra effort to be at the Town Hall meeting tomorrow night at the Port.

Those who oppose us will probably be in attendance at both of those events in numbers, so let's show them the white light we are made of and show up in greater numbers!

As to who feels most threatened: We cannot live without air and water... Jay Hupp and his friends business associates threaten our very lives with the proposed Adage facility. I consider that a "real threat," certainly poisoning our environment is much more threatening than a photoshop picture of death in Jay's chair. Although the reapers presence in Jay's chair probably did make him a little queasy, it had absolutely no ability to harm him! The same cannot be said for Adage!
