DOWNTOWN AIR MONITOR TO BECOME A REALITY

Submitted to Shelton Blog by Katherine Price

At the April 11th City of Shelton Commission Meeting, air-breathers in attendance got some really good news from Mayor John Tarrant. He said our downtown air monitor is here!

I also spoke on April 11th with Robert Moody of the Olympic Regional Clean Air Agency (ORCAA), who has been kind enough to keep me informed in connection with this project. He told me the monitor would be up and running within two weeks (but he forgot to mention that it was already in Shelton!).

That would put installation on or about the 25th of April. A little later than we might have liked, but I, for one, am still thrilled that ORCAA and the City have concluded, as have the air-breathers, that a monitor downtown is essential.

Now that the air monitor is actually here, I imagine it is just a matter of scheduling the technical team who will calibrate the machine and start the record of the air quality downtown.

On Saturday, April 16th, there is an open house at the new Public Safety Building on 122 Franklin Street and 2nd. I hope everyone will make a trip downtown to take a tour of the new facility and to see firsthand where the new monitor will be situated.

This is such great news for the air breathing community! I hope to see you all Saturday, April 16th, checking out the new Public Safety Building where the City of Shelton and ORCAA will be hooking up
the new air monitor shortly.

I will keep on top of this so that we will have the actual day and time of the air monitor installation. And on that day, I hope we, the very happy citizens of Shelton, can arrange to meet with representatives of ORCAA, the City of Shelton, and perhaps the Department of Ecology.

GO SHELTON!!!

  1. And just who is going to certify the accuracy of this monitor?
And will it be recertified at regular intervals? And will there be any third party to check on its accuracy?

  3. KUDOS TO YOU DEAR KATHERINE!!!

HEARTfelt thanks to you from the entire community of air-breathers for your focused & TIRELESS efforts to get downtown Shelton its MOST NEEDED air monitoring system.

WITHOUT YOU, we would not see this air monitor being installed this very month. With this installation, a NEW era begins for the citizens of Shelton...a chance for us all & the generations to come to have AIR that is HEALTHY to BREATHE. May your good works return to you a thousandfold!!!
