Shortly after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Steve Goins, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Shelton, signed the agreement with ORCAA to locate an air monitor in the City of Shelton on the new Public Safety Building.
Steve Goins felt the urgency expressed by the citizens for the monitor and, notwithstanding the many irons he has in the fire, he gave this matter his prompt attention; the City Attorney approved the agreement; and now it is signed and hopefully will be on its way shortly to ORCAA.
Once the original document has been sent to ORCAA, and ORCAA signs off, we should be two weeks from having an air monitor downtown.
It is the hope of the air-breathers that the monitor will help the citizens, the City and ORCAA evaluate the existing air quality and make an informed decision in connection with the pending Simpson/Solomon proposal to locate a second incinerator right downtown.
Telephone calls to Steve Goins thanking him for the speed with which he moved the agreement with ORCAA forward would be in order.
Score one more for the good guys!

Yea! to the "Power of the People"!!
ReplyDeleteMany have been calling, leaving messages -- and, just plain "won't go away"!
After the 30+ people attending last Monday's City Council/Commission meeting and with so many of them also speaking, maybe the Mayor and Commissioners and Admin. Staff got a taste of what their life was going to be like if they did not FIRST consider the citizens of Shelton and those from Mason County who work and shop there.
It is nice to see that unlike the County and the Port, the City can be moved by citizen will.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Mayor was particularly gracious to all of us who attended Monday's meeting - a stark contrast to the bored resignation we receive from Tim and Jay.
Let's all show up again on Monday, April 4th, we have a few more comments and some questions we would like to pose.
Party starts in 2 minutes; trust I will see you there!
