Tim Sheldon Says Lack of Democrat Partisanship
Led to Dumping From Committee
by John Stang
OLYMPIA — Sen. Majority Leader Lisa Brown acknowledged party allegiance isn’t significant to the Democrat, but denies that she was punishing him for it.
State Sen. Tim Sheldon has only one Senate committee assignment this session — transportation.
By comparison, most other legislators — including members of the Kitsap Peninsula delegation — have at least three.
Sheldon, D-Potlatch, contends he was unfairly removed from the Senate’s Energy, Water and Environment Committee by Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, D-Spokane.
But Brown contends the Senate Committee on Committees ended up selecting others for the energy committee’s seats. She said no one is guaranteed reappointment to specific committees, and that Sheldon was merely not reappointed. She also noted that Sheldon turned down an offer to serve on the Senate’s Economic Development, Trade and Innovation Committee.
Sheldon said Brown told him she wanted him removed from the energy committee because she heard a rumor he was working with Republicans to deny a seat to newly elected Sen. Nick Harper, D-Everett. Sheldon denies that he is doing so...
A move to combat Harper’s seating does appear to be in the works, according to two published reports.
